Lebanese Architecture Firm among Nine Shortlisted for the Design of the Biggest Train Station in Europe

Hashim Sarkis Studios (www.hashimsarkis.com) have been selected as one of nine teams that will compete for the design of the Yenikapi Station in Europe. This large intermodal transfer point will include stations for the new Marmaray Train which will cross under the Bosphorus, the metro and light rail. When built, it will become the largest transfer station in Europe. The competition is organized by the city of Istanbul and includes other international firms like Peter Eisenman from New York and MVRDV from the Netherlands. The winner will be announced in April 2012.



Hashim Sarkis Studios is an architecture firm with offices in Beirut and in Boston. It has already won several local and international awards including most recently the design competition for the new municipality of Byblos. The work of the firm has been published extensively and exhibited at such venues as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the architectural biennales of Venice, Rotterdam, and Shenzhen/Hong Kong.
